Kimbulapitiya in the Negombo Division. One man was killed and his wife critically injured after a firecracker factory exploded. 3.3.2011

Kurana, Negombo. Avindathi Thathsarani Weerasooriya (5 yrs and 5 months) died of serious burn injuries in a tragic firecracker accident at a wedding ceremony.

Avindathi was about 20 meters away from the fire cracker blast but could not escape being fatally injured. 20.5.2011

2010

 

Kolonnawa. A small explosion due to fireworks caused a fire in which two supporters of Duminda Silva had to be hospitalised. One has suffered severe burn injuries while the other supporter had to have his leg amputated. 19.3.2010

Matale. A fireworks factory was completely burnt down in a fire. An employee, H.G. Ariyaratna (57), father of two children, died of burns. 17.11.2010

2005

 

Kimbulapitiya. At least three workers were killed in an explosion at the Jana Handa fireworks factory after the plant caught fire. The cause of the fire is yet to be established. 13.9.2005

2002

 

Colombo. At least 10 people were killed and more than 20 others, including children, injured when a fireworks store caught fire. Police and rescue workers were searching for more bodies and people trapped in the upper floors and adjoining buildings of the fireworks store which caught fire.
